The police commissioner in Lagos state, Fatai Owoseni, has said that 295 policemen died under his command in 2015.
He said some of the men died through illnesses, while others died from accident-related incidents and or were shot by criminals.
The commissioner paid tribute to the fallen officers and offered his sincerest condolences to their families.
Owoseni said that between December 12, 2015 and January 6, 2016, no fewer than 47 suspected armed robbers and 14 cultists who had been on the wanted list of the police and the State Security Service (SSS) for murder were arrested.
He said that two armed robbers were killed during a gunfight with police, while 16 different pieces of ammunition and 24 vehicles were recovered.
Also, in related news, the Rivers state police commissioner, Musa Kimo has disclosed that men of the command killed a total of 145 suspected kidnappers and 98 armed robbers in 2015.
He said 329 suspected kidnappers and another 187 suspected armed robbers were arrested during the period, while a total of 337 kidnapped victims were rescued by his men last year.
Kimo, who spoke in Port Harcourt on Thursday when he displayed arms and ammunition recovered from hoodlums, said 375 suspected cultists were arrested in various parts of the state over the past one year.
Kimo said 105 robberies, including seven bank robberies, were foiled by his men in 2015, while 13 persons were held for rape and defilement within the period.
He said the arms and ammunition recovered from hoodlums in the state in 2015, included 80 AK-47 rifles, 123 pump action shotguns, 4,251 locally made pistols, 56 assault rifles, one General Purpose Machine Gun, and 11,917 assorted items of ammunition.
