The Big Thing in Town: Gombe APC seeks more support from national headquarters

The opposition All Progressives Congress in Gombe state has appealed to the National Headquarters of the party to pay more attention to its on-going petition against the return of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hassan Dankwambo, at the state Governorship Election Tribunal.
The party made the appeal in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of all members loyal to former Governor Danjuma Goje.
The communiqué signed by the acting chairman of the party, Ishaya Karu, and secretary, Sallau Pindiga, and made available to PREMIUM TIMES in Gombe on Monday also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, Gombe state office to comply with the court order on the forensic examination of election materials for the 2015 governorship election in the state.
The party also expressed its full support for President Mohammadu Buhari and said it has confidence that his administration will end the Boko Haram insurgency troubling the North-East zone.
“The forum is optimistic that the Nigerian government, under the leadership of Mohammadu Buhari, will bring positive change across the country as well as an end to insurgency,” it said.
The forum, which restated its commitment to the party under the leadership of John Oyegun, also pledged its loyalty to the acting chairman of the party in the state, Ishaya Karu.
It, however, supported the vote of no confidence and suspension of the state chairman of the party, Magaji Doho, and 12 others, as slammed on them by the Karu-led faction earlier in the month.
“We fully support and re-affirm the vote of no confidence and suspension of the state Chairman of the APC, Magaji Doho and 12 others for their anti party role, in the last governorship election, in line with the party’s constitution,” it said.
The party also said it was satisfied with the leadership of Mr. Goje and its gubernatorial candidate in the last Governorship election, Inuwa Yahaya, as, they continue to guide the party in the state, contributing to the growth and development of the APC in the process.
Addressing journalists shortly after the stakeholders meeting, the party’s candidate in the last governorship election, Mr. Yahaya, said the national leadership of the party was aware of the tussle in the party in Gombe state.
He therefore urged supporters of the party to remain calm as the matter would soon be put to rest.
Mr. Yahaya later visited the scene of Thursday’s bomb blast at Gombe central market, where he commiserated with those who lost their lives and property.
