Do Nigerian men marry for love? | TheCable.ng
Why do Nigerian men get married? For love, companionship, out of convenience, material motivation or other reasons?
Not everyone, it appears, agrees that most Nigerian men marry simply for the sake of love.
“Here, marriage is understood in a different perspective unlike in the western world,” a Lagos resident told Battabox during a recent voxpop session.

HOSPITALS FOR HUMANITY KICKS OFF 1K1M CAPAIAGN TO SAVE CHILDREN WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE

HOSPITALS FOR HUMANITY KICKS OFF 1K1M CAPAIAGN TO SAVE CHILDREN WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE

Congenital Heart Defects are very common and critical birth defects, however survival and life expectancy of individuals with congenital heart disease have significantly increased with earlier diagnosis, improved surgical interventions and better medical management.

Every year, an estimated 85,000 children are born with congenital heart defects in Nigeria, all are currently referred out of the country for surgeries. A high proportion of children with surgically amenable congenital heart disease will require life-saving, invasive intervention to help improve their quality of life significantly. It is estimated that compared to their peers, the medical costs for individuals with congenital heart disease are 10 to 20 times greater funds most of these family cannot afford.

To this end, Hospitals for Humanity (HfH) an Atlanta based NGO, duly registered both in the US & Nigeria, has in the last two years conducted 49 paediatric cardiothoracic surgeries via its Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Initiative (PCTSI) and in Nigeria, made up of a world class team, providing care and services comparable to any first class institution while building capacities of local staff and fostering knowledge transfer.

Currently HfH has a patient list of over a 1000 patients, 200 of who URGENTLY need surgeries, having exhausted its funds in the largely pro bono efforts of the last two years, HfH seeks to raise funds via its 1K1M fundraising campaign to continue carrying out these surgeries for the needing children.

The 1K1M campaign seeks to raise funds from one million individuals who will give at least N1,000 each towards carrying out open-heart surgeries for 200 children with congenital heart defects.

Taking off in January 2017 and running throughout the year, the campaign will involve as many activities as possible all aimed at raising funds for this cause.

On board as proud partners and sponsors are Daar Communications, BellaNaija to mention a few.

How to heal HEARTBREAK - SISI WENDY

Why it's hard to get over a heartbreak | TheCable Lifestyle
Most people who have had their hearts broken find it hard to let go because they are afraid of one thing: forgetting.
Forgetting the good times, the fun times, and the best moments spent together.
The time devoted, the emotional connection and the mental investment into this one person are practically what keeps them going.
They simply don’t want to forget.
Somehow, the fear of forgetting is greater than the accompanying pain.
Heartbreak, respecter of nobody
Heartbreak doesn’t have to be the case of ‘boy doesn’t love girl anymore’ (or vice versa), heartbreak can be from the loss of a loved one. The effect of the pain is similar, and the depth as well. Doesn’t make the former any easier, either.
The mind is no respecter of circumstances when it chooses to torture [its] victims of heartbreak.
It slowly guides one into a state of depression, making it feel all warm, cozy and loving, every ‘way’ it best can; then it tells your body that it is okay to do without food for a while by making every thought a nightmare, which in turn seizes your appetite… until you’re only surviving through those thoughts.
Soliloquy becomes more than a figure of speech. It becomes your best friend, your confidant, your listening ear. Who else would? Everyone is tired of hearing the same sad story; they’ve run out of sympathy and empathy.
Then heartbreak suddenly becomes your dangerous solace – simply because you don’t want to forget.
How to deal with heartbreak
It starts with accepting what has happened. He said he doesn’t want you anymore; that he doesn’t feel the same way for you anymore and he feels you both should go your different ways (and vice versa).
Rather than brood and get depressed, why not see it as a blessing?
If you really look at it well, what he is basically saying is, you are now free to do as you like, you know, check out that nice tall, dark and handsome dude that is more good looking than he is, without feeling bad about it, you can now party with your male friends or increase your chances of getting that nice hot dude that has got his eyes on you, while pretending to still play hard to get, and pound a few more yams.
Why is that so hard to accept? What are the odds? If all it would take for you to get over not wasting two to five more years of whatever number you’ve spent so far is to let go, why still hold on?
Despite heartbreak being unable to take away the pain, or make one forget, most people cling to it, afraid that it’s all they have.
How to move on and ‘not forget’
It’s always better to let go and love someone again, with everything new you’ve learned, both about yourself and about life.
Explore, see life through the eyes of someone else again. Devote time and affection, emotional connection and mental investment with the hope that this time around, you’d do it better.
You only appreciate the things you’ve learned when you allow yourself share it with another person who would appreciate it. But you’d never know unless you let go.
Focusing on the good things, regardless of how your heart was broken, will help ease the pain. It would help you forgive (yourself) and forget enough to allow yourself let go.
It will also give you a lighter heart knowing that you’ve made peace with yourself and the other person.
So, you’re not exactly forgetting. That memory stays with you for a long time, I’m afraid. But instead, you’re channeling those thoughts into something more positive.
Allow yourself to be okay with it.

Habits that help older people sleep better

Finding easy sleep at old age | TheCable Lifestyle
Several studies have shown that sleep becomes harder as we get older, especially when one gets to the age of fifty and above.
This is often caused by abrupt waking up during the night and early morning rising.
James Goodwin, chief scientist at Age United Kingdom, says that “sleeping is something we all tend to take for granted, but we really have to wise up to the fact that getting the right amount of good sleep is crucial as we age, helping to protect us from all kinds of problems that can affect our brains as well as our bodies”.
To stay healthy at old age, experts have put together habits to inculcate.
Limit your afternoon naps
To have a good night rest, doctors have advised that if need be, reduce your afternoon naps to less than thirty minutes.
Wear bed socks
Go to bed with socks to keep your feet warm and comfortable all night long.
Don’t drink coffee after lunch time
Take coffee in the morning if you really must, but don’t take after lunch time. The effect might not wear off when you need to sleep.
Avoid taking sleeping pills
If not prescribed by a physician, avoid using over the counter sleeping pills.
Don’t sleep with pet in the same room
Do away with anything that would disturb your sleep at nights, don’t sleep with your pets if they may disturb you.
Don’t quarrel with your spouse before going bed
Just what it means, avoid arguments with spouse or partner before going to bed.

Did you know that female takes up to fifteen minutes to achieve orgasm? While male takes only two or three minutes. (Premature Ejaculation).
So if you want to hear your girl moaning for real, you need to put a bit of work in love making. You surely Need to spice things up in the bedroom for your partner to achieve insane orgasm.
Does Your Woman Scream Your Name When Having Sex With You? If No Make It Happen Tonight. With Just 1 single Natural solution Its Fun and the Experience is Superb.
As you see, you need to stimulate whole female body to achieve her orgasm. It is not easy or fast job. You need to give a lot of attention and passion to your sex partner. If you are not sure what your partner likes , just ask her.
What women want in bed
Skill #1 Learn How to Beat Premature Ejaculation
Pretty much every man wants to know how to be better in bed. And for good reasons: the more pleasure you give your partner, the more she will give you..
When you learn to master premature ejaculation and become good at delaying your orgasms, you have got the first and foremost element covered. Likely for you reading these article, Several Natural products Such as The Mascum Herbal Pride have been Developed to help you beat premature Ejaculation.
Skill #2 Give Her Orgasm Before Intercourse Starts
This is far and away the biggest thing women wish men did more of in bed. Most men don’t do this – instead, they clumsily plow straight to intercourse as fast as possible. This means that “foreplay” usually consists of a few minutes of obligatory kissing, followed by a few minutes of obligatory breast stimulation, followed by a few minutes of obligatory cunnilingus until the ultimate goal of intercourse is reached. This isn’t what women want!
If you can give her an orgasm before you penetrate her, then it’s GUARANTEED to be good sex in her book, And on top of this, giving her an orgasm will make her more responsive and MUCH more likely to have another orgasm during intercourse. Sex becomes better for you, and for her.

Skill #3 Learn How To Stop Ejaculating Too Quickly
We’ve been told that “women don’t mind if you don’t last that long in bed, as long as you’re good with your fingers” and that it’s OK for a man to only last a few minutes in bed. This is a big steaming heap of BS.
Women HATE it when a man shoots off too soon because it prevents them from having orgasms. How would you feel if a woman got YOU close to an orgasm, then all of a sudden stopped, rolled over, and went to sleep?
You need to know how to last 30 minutes in bed AT THE MINIMUM. If you really want to drive women wild, then you should learn how to last over an hour in bed. And of course you can have a “quickie” once in a while, but most of the time women will need a minimum of 30 minutes of intercourse to have multiple orgasms.
Skill #4 Get Her To Do The Dance
Men are obsessed with “putting in a good performance” in bed. And to some extent this is not a bad thing … you do want to give her sexual pleasure and orgasms. But if you need to be “performing” for her ALL THE TIME, then this can be a big turn-off for her. She wants a guy who can also set up situations where she can perform for HIM.
For example, almost ALL women love giving blowjobs if the guy can get her thinking about them the right way. And if you can get her to “perform” for you like this – especially if she’s doing something she usually doesn’t do for other guys – it’ll be a huge sexual thrill to her. Think about the rush you get from giving her a huge orgasm … this is what she’ll experience if you know how bypass her inhibitions and get her to “perform” for you in bed.

Skill #5 Learn How to Maintain Hard ERECTION
Not being able to get hard erections is probably a man's worst nightmare. His unexpected inability to achieve a hard erection or maintaining it at the least during lovemaking is always his concern. He knows he can't go anywhere and do anything at all with it. His work and productivity will surely be affected. Who wouldn't? It takes away his self-confidence and pride. If there is anything in this world that will humble the cowboy down, then this would be it.
A solid product such as the Mascum Herbal Pride is already Available to help you be a better lover
The problems associated with getting hard erections is a very popular concern in the male population everywhere in the United States. It affects about 18 million males, all with various causes. Psychological causes are also dominant, such as cultural pressures that sometimes get the better of the males in their respective communities.

How to make your skin glow now and forever

Glowing skin
Many have wondered why their skin can’t be as fresh as it was when they were younger. Many have tried every available options yet the skin has just refused to glow.
Clear, flawless and glowing skin is what everyone desires as no one enjoys the presence of pimples, acne, eczema and black spots.
Making your skin flawless can’t only be achieved through chemicals. You can get a shiny skin by applying natural tips which are easily accessible and promote a healthy life.
Drink water
Water is very good for the health as it purifies impurities. It cleanses the body by eliminating the toxic waste and also removes excess oils and dirt.
Inculcate the habit of taking in at least 2 litres of water per day. It gets rid of every dryness and wrinkle and also helps to boost the immune system.
Adhering to this will give your body a noticeable change in less than a week.
Eat vegetables
Once the digestive system encounters problem, there is a strong likelihood that there would be skin impurities.
Good diet enhances a healthy skin and ingesting the right amount of micro-nutrients and vitamins helps clear the skin.
To have a glowing natural skin, carefully select vegetables and fruits which are rich in vitamins and omega3 fatty acids that would help reduce inflammation and leave you with a flawless skin.
Employ skin hydration
You can’t get tired of washing that body. Yes, you really have to wash it at least twice a day.
Some ask ‘where is the time?’ But it’s essential that you take your bath at least twice a day to wash off the bacteria that have found their way to the skin’s pores.
That makeup shouldn’t go to bed with you; wash it off with soap and cold water as warm water opens the skin pores to bacteria and dirt but cold water closes up pores.
The movement required to washing your face is a circular one, don’t scrub your face like you scrub other part of your body. The face is so delicate and applying force on it could result in irritation.
Try exfoliation
You want to have a clear skin and you’ve tried cleansing, moisturising and toning but you’ve ignored exfoliation; maybe now is the time to try it out.
Periodic exfoliation could be what your skin needs at the moment and it only requires ingredients like oats and orange peel to help remove dead cells and impurities from the skin.
Detoxification helps
Ignore the name, it might sound like there is much to be done but it is one of the simplest ways to attain a glowing skin.
You are required to carefully choose the 30 days to run a detoxification program.
During that time, you’ll ingest fruits and vegetable detox diet which would help purge and cleanse the system and enhance the functions of the liver, kidney and colon.
Unpack stress
You have to learn to lift worries off and rest your body. Sleep is the most essential way and number one secret to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Give your body adequate rest, reduce stress and make an occasional visit to the spa or swimming pool to relax your muscles.
Engage in physical activities
Some have been made to believe that engaging in physical activities is only essential for weight loss hence, they don’t exercise the body.
Do you know that exercises like indoor aerobics can help the heart pump more blood and increase energy flow to the skin cells?
Physical activities help neutralises oxidative stress and rid the cells of waste products. Exercise helps you break sweat which flushes toxins and reduces stress in the body.
Keep your hands off
Learn to take your hands off those pimples and irritations. Picking the surface lightly could result in skin damage. Leave those pimples, your fingers cannot make them disappear so why even go there?
When you pick the acne, you are creating more acne and equally giving way to discoloration; for every pimple you burst, you cause inflammation to the skin.
Wait for results
For those who are already applying some products, be patient with them; don’t be in a hurry to see result. Don’t combine several products, stick to one, apply and wait for the positive result.
Also, endeavour to know the kind of product that fits your skin. Don’t go for a product a friend with an oily skin uses while you have a dry skin. The result might not be a good one.

Nigerian crowned Uk’s Pharmacist of the Year as this to say

Olutayo Arikawe had a great 2016 grabbing an award as Britain’s Pharmacist of the Year. A community pharmacist and pharmacist manager at Priory Community Pharmacy in Dudley, Arikawe had earlier won the Chemist and Druggist (C+D) Community Pharmacist of the Year and Pharmacy Manager of the year awards.
As a visiting lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton, she gives career advice and offers work placements for students. Arikawe spoke to TheCable about her professional journey since relocating to the United Kingdom in 2005.
Import of the ‘I Love My Pharmacist Award’
‘The I Love My Pharmacist’ award was created by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the professional body for pharmacists in Great Britain, to showcase and celebrate the great work that pharmacists do for their patients across the country. It actually celebrates Britain’s best pharmacists.
Pronouncement of the winner of the award
I was shortlisted by an expert panel to become one of 23 regional finalists back in June 2016. The members of the public then voted for their favourite pharmacist. I won the regional award for midlands and east. In September, the other five regional winners and I had to present to another expert panel that adjudged me the national winner.
Other awards in 2016
Yes, I was privileged to have won two awards at the Chemist and Druggist (C+D) awards: the Community Pharmacist of the Year and Pharmacy Manager of the Year. I also won the public health pharmacist of the year at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Awards. I have also won many local and other national awards.Olutayo Arikawe.png 2
Impact of the new award on your career and life generally
The award has shown that the great work that my team and I are doing are not going unnoticed. I was honoured to see the community where I work support me and go from house to house to canvass votes for me.  It has been a source of motivation and encouragement for me to do much more than I am currently doing in terms of supporting patient care.
It has given me the opportunity to promote the pharmacy profession and the great work that pharmacists are doing to care for their patients above and beyond what they are expected to. I have been invited to radio programmes where I spoke about public health issues and attended programmes to support other pharmacists in achieving excellence. It has created awareness about my work and this has led to companies and organisations inviting me to train or motivate their team members in achieving success.  Generally, I am proud to be a pharmacist.
How Arikawe and her team help the people
My team and I do a lot to promote better health and reduce health inequality in our community. We do not wait for people to come to see us at the pharmacy; rather, we take pharmacy to them in their community. We go to places such as colleges, pubs, churches, community centres, gym, work places and more. We carry out health promotions in areas like cardiovascular risks (diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol etc.), reduction of teenage pregnancy, sexual health, smoking cessation and alcohol awareness (creating awareness on how much people are drinking and how they can conform to the national recommended unit). For example, we helped a woman, who smoked over a hundred cigarettes a day, to stop smoking.
My team also gives advice to patients who find it difficult to drink within the required limits. We support patients with alcohol diaries and booklets and refer alcoholic-dependent patients to specialists. Over a period of 13 months, we reached 1,414 people resulting in 477 interventions. We also reach out to colleges to provide sexual health awareness and screening for students.
Becoming a pharmacist
I graduated from the University of Ibadan in the year 2000, had my internship at Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba Lagos, before proceeding to Jigawa state for the national youth service. It was at a remote village at the end of Nigeria called Babura (Jigawa state) that I met a young qualified pharmacist who told me about practising as a pharmacist in the United Kingdom. His sister sent him some documents, which I photocopied and posted to the UK. I was privileged to have received the Jigawa state honour award at the end of my youth service. Before relocating to the UK in 2005, I worked in various hospitals in Nigeria and in community pharmacy and really enjoyed the work.
Pharmacy has always been my love right from childhood. I actually never filled two courses in my JAMB form when I was seeking admission to the university. I feel privileged to be a member of the profession and have enjoyed it immensely. I am quite passionate about supporting and caring for people. I love to make a positive difference in people’s lives in any way I can.
Challenges on your way to the top
I have encountered a lot of challenges in my journey but not as a result of being a Nigerian. I do not remember the colour of my skin when at work. I see us all as the same and my love for my profession is devoid of race. My patients also appreciate me as evidenced in how they went all out to canvass votes for me to become Britain’s favourite pharmacist.
But the UK pharmacy conversion programme was challenging for me.  I had to first complete a conversion course at Aston University for one year and then do a one-year internship. My first challenge was getting used to the way people speak. I had to call my mum several times to tell her I didn’t think I was going to pass my conversion course because I couldn’t understand the lecturers. However, with God, I passed with flying colours. Funnily, I don’t have a problem hearing people anymore.
I always believe in improving myself, which led to another challenge of combining my Master of Public Health programme at the University of London and other diploma programmes with work. I had to be very organised to be able to fit it all together and excel.
Rising to the peak of Pharmacy within a short time, and plans for the future
I intend to mentor and support other people, not just pharmacists, to achieve their dreams and aspirations. People should be able to enjoy the whole journey of their business or career and make a success of it too. And I am already doing this through my company, LT Coaching and Consulting Ltd.
Return to Nigeria?
Yes, I want to contribute to the pharmacy profession in Nigeria and hope to come back home someday. In the mean time I hope to come home once in a while to support the profession and healthcare in Nigeria.
In what specific areas should we expect your contribution?
Mentoring, coaching, training and development are uppermost in my mind; and of course any other area I find my skills needed.

Kenyan women are now going crazy over rabbit’s urine
Lately, Nairobi women have been on a rush to spice up things in the bedroom. No one can clearly explain why but seems like women are desperately trying to enjoy love making like never before.

Recently, news of ladies buying and selling clear ‘stones’ on various online platforms in an effort to tighten their petunia shocked many. Turns out the ‘stones’ were Crystal meth, a highly addictive drug that is illegal both in Kenya and many parts of the world.

Now, word has it that rabbit’s urine is the latest commodity that ladies are aggressively looking for since it can serve the same purpose. And the market is already booming.

Kenyan women are now going crazy over rabbit’s urine

Using social media and free online classifieds selling platform OLX, Kenyans have been making and selling the urine which goes for KSh 100 liter.

According to the sellers that SDE spoke to, women love it because “Is not only good for helping women tighten their ‘pits of pleasure’, it is a sure-fire to help men boost their immune system, fire up their libido and make the aging ones more virile.”

FINALLY!!! Nigerian Scientists cure AIDS

Finally! Nigerian scientists have come up with the cure for AIDS
Drugs

A team of researchers at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia state has been diligent with their work and has been able to prove that one of their products can cure HIV/AIDS.

The team was led by Prof Maduike Ezeibe. The Medicinal Synthetic Aluminium-magnesium Silicate (MSAMS) is the team's solid product for the cure of AIDS. This drug has gone through series of test; its anti-retroviral efficacy has been tested in male and female carriers of the virus.

The outcome of the clinical trial of this drug was published in the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research. A lot of work seems to have been done by these Nigerian scientists who keep searching for the cure of the deadly disease.

Millions of people have died because of this disease while a large number of people are able to manage the virus by living on drugs. Irrespective of this, the Nigerian team of scientists keep doing their best possible in ensuring they find the cure for it.

This new cure found was presented with other papers at the World Virology Conference 2016 held at Texas in the United States. A video presentation on the new cure was made at the conference. This was received well received amidst cheers and loud applause.

It was a great pity that the head of the team, Prof. Ezeibe, could not be at the conference because he was unable to raise enough money for his flight ticket. The news of the newly found cure for AIDS is a delectable piece of information, it is only hoped that these individuals who have gone this far will have all it takes to push it to the very end.

Are you a psychopath? Here are 9 ways to know

Find out if you are a psychopath | TheCable Lifestyle
Not all psychopaths are criminals and not all criminals are psychopaths.
Psychopaths can be anyone from anywhere. You could even be one without even knowing.
Psychopathy is a cluster of various characteristics and a mental illness. It is not easily identified by just looking at a person.
Here are nine ways to know if you or someone around you is a psychopath.
High level of intelligence
For a person who is an expert at manipulating and controlling others, it is a given that they cannot be dumb.
Psychopaths are super meticulous and very intelligent beings. They can change their nature like a chameleon, as and when the situation demands.
Narcissism
Psychopaths take self-love very seriously.
Infuriated egos, overflowing sense of self-importance and a tendency to manipulate situations and people to work in their favor, come what may. They also come across as cocky and arrogant.
Insomniac
Those that tend to stay up at night regularly are more likely to be psychopaths.
A human’s natural sleeping and waking patterns known as chronotypes are largely determined by genetics, which is why some of us feel more intelligent, alert and awake at certain times of the day.
Temperaments are also largely influenced by genetic makeup.
Psychologists have long associated sleeping patterns with personality traits.
Introverts are more likely to be early risers and people who prefer to work and play late into the night are more likely to possess the ‘Dark Triad’ of psychological traits – psychopathy, narcissism, and manipulativeness.
Lack of shame
Psychopaths adopt one of four responses when placed in a situation that ought to have evoked feelings of shame: attack others, avoidance, attack self, or withdrawal.
Impulsivity
Being a psychopath comes down to how your brain functions and which part of your brain has greater control over your actions.
This is most evident when you look at psychopaths’ tendency to exhibit impulsive behavior.
No empathetic feeling
Psychopaths are insensitive when it comes to dealing with other people’s emotions and feelings. They have no empathy or sympathy towards others.
However, they can easily dupe others with a fake play of emotions. They lack love and are shallow and dark, but they can easily conceal that about themselves.
Inclination to get violent
Psychopaths act based on impulse and as such, can exhibit violent behavior when they turn aggressive.
Extreme recklessness
Psychopaths are usually very calm and composed people, but they can also be erratic.
They can do things as small as shoplifting or as grievous as committing a gruesome murder, just because it gives them a kick at that particular point in time.
Uncanny nerve to make you feel uncomfortable
Psychopaths are great manipulators and control freaks who can cause extreme discomfort and make the other person feel unsafe, without even harming them.

5 awesome benefits of being single

Being single is bliss
Often times, we are made to believe that people in relationships are happier than everyone else because they get to fall in love and do all those fun things.
But have you ever thought of the freedom of not having to share details of your life with anyone?
In today’s increasingly modern world, being single can be a cherished state of mind – and here are five things you can enjoy.
Endless possibilities
When you are single, you are free of obligations, restraint and are less cautious when trying to mix with the other sex.
You can decide to hang out with friends of a different sex and have immense fun (and possibly go overboard) without feeling guilty or being extremely careful.
When single, your possibilities are endless and you can do anything you want to do.
No second-guessing yourself
When in a relationship, you have to consider the impact your actions will have on your better half.
You have to take into consideration their feelings and reception of certain decisions you may want to make or things you may want to do.
When single, you don’t have to worry if your partner will approve or not. You are your own army, do as you like.
Do nothing against your will
Relationships demand occasional sacrifices and compromises.
You may not be a “nightclub person” but because your partner loves to hang out at night, and obviously won’t want to go alone, you’d be compelled to tag along.
If you are single, you can decide to go to the beach whenever you want and stay indoors and Netflix endlessly if that’s what you desire.
You have no one else to make happy but yourself.
You can be totally honest
We have all been in situations where we have had to give false compliments, lie about our whereabouts and give misleading status updates.
Many do it because they don’t want their other half to be unhappy or insecure, hence, they’d rather lie for the sake of peace.
Single people can be totally honest because they owe no one any explanation.
Time to work on yourself
With the stress of the job and daily life, time for self-development is something not everyone can afford.
However, single people can take out time to reflect on past affairs, advance themselves, have time for friends and prepare for future relationships.

Ogbeh: Ebonyi farmers still harvesting rice by hand FG Attention required!!

Audu Ogbeh, minister of agriculture, says rice farmers in Ebonyi state are still in the business of harvesting by hand and with sickle.
Speaking at the ongoing African Economic Conference in Abuja, Ogbeh said government would intensify support for local farmers, and sustain plans by Akinwumi Adesina, former minister of agriculture, to help local farmers via e-Wallet.
“There’s a need to intensify support, and one of the things we are trying to do now is to reform the bank of agriculture; the African Development Bank is already giving support in that line,” he said.
“We’ve got to build that bank to the level where we can lend money at single digit, as down south as possible to single digit as we can.”
Speaking of the rice farmers and the need to support them with simple machinery, Ogbeh narrated an experience he had with them.
“Over the years, we, in the cities, have never really understood what goes on at the farms. We don’t know the stress of a peasant farmer.
“I was in Ebonyi last week, massive rice production; they are harvesting by hand, using sickle. Imagine a hectare of rice, that is a football field being cut by a man and his wife, bending down all day and then beating the rice on a stick to get the seeds of the tusk.
“If that guy has two hectares, he may not finish harvesting till the raining season arrives. So we need harvesters, we need threshers, very simple machines.”
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) earlier said that Ebonyi rice farmers had outstripped the earmarked production for the year.
Ogbeh assured Nigerians that there would be no famine in Nigeria, emphasising that the federal government has a plan to combat any occurrence of food  shortage.
