President Muhammadu Buhari says many Nigerian youths just want to sit down and do nothing, banking on the notion that Nigerian is an oil-rich nation.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the president said a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school and they want everything free.
“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one,” Buhari said.
“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free.”
The president said he has done well on the three cardinal points of his campaign, including economy and security.
“Recently, my minister for information was constrained to answer a question on people accusing this administration of doing nothing, he said ‘let Nigerians be reminded what position we were before May 2015, what condition we are now, and what we have achieved between then and now and I think people were impressed with the answer.
“For security, we have done quite well. Economy, we are doing very well, especially with agriculture; we are providing soft loans, and guarantee is that you have to belong to a certain locality and you have got land, you don’t have to go to the bank and need a physical collateral. I think a lot is being done.”
The president is expected to meet with business leaders and other heads of state as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting progress through the week.
No less than seventeen people were killed in Offa, Kwara state, on Thursday, April 5, after a group of armed robbers stormed the town to rob five banks.
The robbers also attacked a local police station in the town, killing eight officers and four people in police custody.
Premium Times reports that the Kwara police commissioner Lawan Ado said five residents were shot and killed on the street of Offa by the robbers.
He said: “Twelve people were killed at the police station, eight of them were police officers. The remaining four were suspects in police custody."
Ado said the police intelligence team has arrived from Abuja to help with the investigation into the incident.
He said: “We arrested one person yesterday and six persons today in connection with the robbery,” he said. “We will stop at nothing to ensure that all the suspects are arrested.”
He added that the police has reovered seven get away vehicles used by the robbers t escape town after the robbery.
It was earlier reported that the president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, has declared that he would support Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state to ensure that all those who took part in the robbery attacks on banks in Offa on Thursday, April 5, are brought to justice.
Saraki, in a statement gathered, said that he spoke with the governor to express his condolence over the killing of some residents and police personnel by the robbers, numbering about 15, who attacked five banks.
An unidentified man has been the victim of theft perpetuated by two slay mamas who allegedly stole from him. He however got officers involved and they were arrested by SARS officials. An Instagram user named Jordanstyl shared the clip of the girls being whisked away from Akowonjo De Santos hotel in Lagos.
According to the victim, he met one of the ladies by the ATM close to his house. They got on chatting and she requested he host her in his home. Being a love interest, he obliged and invited over to is apartment.
The lady accepted the invite and showed up with a friend on a certain day. They were together having fun when he had to briefly step out of the house, leaving his new friend and guest behind.
To his surprise, on his return, the girl and her friend had fled with some of his personal items including a gold wrist watch worth N420, 000.

Police said the duo have also been placed on Interpol watchlist for allegedly providing false information to the police in relation to an allegation of attempted murder on Melaye’s life sometime last year, Premium Times reports.

The police issued this statement on Saturday, March 25 and accused the senator of deliberately ignoring the request to appear before it in spite of the message sent to him.
The police said that two suspects who were arrested in Kogi claimed the senator gave them firearms to create social unrest.

Northern leaders in the past weeks, have been grumblings about the acting president's appointments.
A Dr Ismaila Farouk recently accused Osinbajo of ‘tactical’ nepotism and cronyism.
He said: “Contrary to the widely held belief that vice President Osinbajo, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and a Professor of Law is above board, a forensic analysis of his activities since he assumed office reveals that the VP has consistently abused his office, negating the principles of Federal Character and has systematically favored members of the Redeemed Church and his Yoruba tribe.”
The Northern leader lambasted the acting president for the appointment of Dr Okey Enelamah as Minister for Trade and Investment.
He argued that Enelameh was his Deputy and later successor at the RCCG, Banana Island, Lagos.
He also accused the acting president of appointing “his RCCG Brother” Alex Okoh as DG of the Bureau of Public Enterprise.
According to the statement: “While Nigerians were trying to come to terms with the shock of Pastor Enelamah’s nomination, VP Osinbajo took a step further in his nepotistic disposition in the setting up of his office and selection of personal staff.
" First, he chose his former colleague at the University of Lagos Ade Ipaye who was also his Special Adviser while he was Attorney General of Lagos to serve as his Chief of Staff. Unsurprisingly, Ade Ipaye hails from Ogun state, the VP’s state of origin.
" He went on to relocate Laolu Akande, an indigene of Ogun state who was hibernating in New York to serve as his Media Adviser. For his Chief Economic Adviser, he appointed Ambassador Dipeolu also of Yoruba extraction.
"The VP didn’t stop there, of his 10 Principal Officers in his office, 9 are from his Yoruba ethnic group. In his quest to perpetuate his ilk in government, the VP has capitalised on the magnanimity of President Buhari’s implicit confidence in him to plant his Yoruba and RCCG brethren in key agencies of government.”
Senior Special Assistant, Media to the acting president, Laolu Akande, declined to comment, according to the Sun.
Meanwhile, some northern leaders also criticized the acting president.
Abubakar Tsav, former commissioner of police, Lagos state “Osinbajo has been very active as acting president working very hard, with zeal, dedication and utmost efficiency and this is commendable. However, the recent appointments he has been making alarm me. Those appointments are very narrow and sectional. Those appointments will create division and sow seeds of ethnic discord.
"How can Osinbajo appoint more than 80 per cent of his personal staff from South-West? Not only that, names of Yoruba also feature prominently on the list of appointments he made into parastatals. Again, most of these appointees are Christians. This is unacceptable. Osinbajo should realise that he is now a national figure.
“Although Osinbajo is humane, but he should be more liberal, and try to be pan-Nigerian in whatever he is doing . With the public outcry against him on this issue, I think he should do the needful. He should realise that what he has done on this appointments issue is not good for his own image, for the interests of the country, and it is also inimical to the growth and development of democracy in this country.”
Alhaji Balarabe Musa, second republic governor of kaduna state said: “I will comment appropriately when I see it in prints. It has happened before. For instance, this culture of WAZOBIA all the time, and people are not ashamed of it. When the president comes from the North, you see him marginalizing the Southeast, when the president comes from the Southwest, you see him marginalizing the North, even when the president comes from the South-south you will not see the Southeast getting its fair share. That is why some people who are honest are saying that this time it has to come from the Southeast to give every Nigerian a sense of belonging and for national unity. So, let us test them and see if it will be the same thing from those from the North, Southwest and South-south.
“It doesn’t make sense to surround yourself with people from your area; it doesn’t provide you with security. With the exception of Gowon and Murtala Mohammed, others didn’t give equal opportunities to people from other parts of the country. That is what Nigerians who are concerned should put their heads together to stop.”
Dr. Junaid Mohammed, second republic member of the House of Representatives in his reaction said: “The way and manner Osinbajo made the recent appointment goes to prove that in the event of Osinbajo succeeding Buhari, we are going to have the same problem of nepotism, clannishness, cronyism and religious bigotry.
“Buhari doesn’t know the difference between cronyism, clannishness and religious bigotry, but the one by Osinbajo is determined and being done to pursue and favour the Yoruba agenda in Nigeria.
"This untenable and unacceptable and he should be reminded in very clear terms that he has failed legitimately, he was not elected. He is nothing but a spare tyre and he still remains that.
“I understand (I have not been there though) that since Buhari came to power, if you go to Osinbajo’s office it is Ogun dialect that is spoken there. In addition also, all the key appointments, even those not made by Buhari, as he was not in office, he insisted on his own Yoruba people. Is that the kind of Nigeria we want to build?
"All this goes to show that Nigerians were unfortunate to have Buhari as a leader, because if Buhari had been a leader there won’t have been all these problems, but because he is not in charge of the Presidency, it has been hijacked by the cabal, and Osinbajo is trying to hijacked what remains of the presidency. His actions are condemnable.”
On his part, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), said: “a lot of government officials behave like that. When Buhari was making his appointments, some of us shouted and told him that this would not augur well with the nation, and we are thinking of how to unite the country to avoid any reason for people to be making agitations. What Osinbajo is doing is not different from what Buhari is doing whereby all appointments go to Daura village.
“This won’t help us, we must begin to see that the right thing is done and begin to consider other people and give each person a sence of belonging. When you see agitations coming from some quarters, it is not that they want to go; it is that they are not given the sense of belonging.
Meanwhile, the special assistant to former president Goodluck Jonathan on public affairs has said that it will be wrong for the Acting president Yemi Osinbajo to run for presidency if anything should happen to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Doyin Okupe in an interview with Tribune said the Northern region of Nigeria will feel cheated out if Osinbajo runs for president in 2019.
Citing the case of a former president late Umaru Yar'Adua, Okupe said the northerners are scared that what happened in 2010 after Yar'Adua's death might happen again.

Some male corps members of the Lagos camp of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) allegedly slept under the open sky on the night of Friday, May 26.
The affected corp members were reportedly forced out of the registration room were they had been sleeping due to lack of space in hostels since camp resumed on Tuesday, May 24.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Ege Olaide, a member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) with registration number KB/16 A/379 serving in Kebbi state has passed away.

The Naira on Tuesday, May 22, continued its recovery against the American Dollar at the parallel market since it dropped to a record low of N520/$1 in February.
According to NAIJ.com findings, the local currency closed the day at N379/$1, two points better than the N381/$1 rate of yesterday, May 22, at the parallel market.
However, the Nigerian currency maintained the same rate of N490 and N420 against Pound Sterling and Euro respectively.
The Naira appreciation comes at a period when the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) injected $205 million into the foreign exchange market.
Isaac Okoroafor, the acting director, Corporate Communications Department of CBN, confirmed the dollar injection in a statement, on Monday, May 22.
According to Okoroafor: “The CBN again injected over $205 million in to the foreign exchange market.
“A breakdown of what market watchers termed as another massive intervention indicated that the sum of $100 million was released for the wholesale segment of the market for both spots and forwards.
“Also, Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) which comes under invisibles segment garnered $50 million while the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME) segment got $55 million."
Earlier there was a report that Nigeria has been struggling with a currency crisis brought on by low oil prices which have hammered its foreign reserves and created chronic dollar shortages.
However, the CBN has resorted to regular injections of Dollars to narrow the spread between the official and black market rates.
The apex bank has sold more than $4 billion to various sectors of the economy since it started intervening on the official market in February.

The Nigerian army in its fight against terrorism killed 13 Boko Haram terrorist in an operation that also led to the arrest of 10 others engaged in smuggling of supplies to the terrorists (photos).
According to Premium Times, this was contained deputy director, public relations, 8 Task Force Division, who revealed that the operation was carried out on Saturday, May 20 around the fringes of Lake Chad.
He said: “In the ongoing clearance operation around the fringes of Lake Chad, troops of 8 Task Force Division have continued to hit the few remaining Boko Haram hideouts and what is left of their logistics holding.”
“In the last 72 hours, gallant troops operating in Chikun Gudu, Tumbuma Karami and Tumbuma Baba have neutralized 13 Boko Haram terrorists, while many others escaped with gunshot wounds.
“Similarly, troops recovered 3 AK 47 and 1 pump action riffles, assorted riffle magazines and 306 rounds of ammunition, tool box, deep freezer and a Toyota gun truck. In the same vein, troops destroyed 2 other Toyota Hilux vehicles, 1 Toyota truck, 2 Motorcycles and 6 bicycles.
“In a related development, troops of 242 Battalion, acting on a tip off, rounded up 10 suspected Boko Haram smugglers. The suspects comprising 6 females and 4 males were arrested in Monguno and Nolwodo Malgori with assorted house – hold items, food stuff and 63, 060 Naira cash.
“The suspects are being profiled to determine the extent of their involvement in Boko Haram insurgency.”
Apostle Harrison Charles A Nigerian pastor based in Onitsha, Apostle Harrison Charles, is said to have 58 wives and 28 children.
According to NAIJ.com Gossip, a young lady, Chizzyfaithia Peters Anokwuru, one of the pastor's victims, who spoke exclusively.
She claimed that the Dayspring Assembly pastor who calls himself 'Apostle And Apostle' is in the habit of 'snatching' women from their husbands.

"His name is Apostle Harrison Charles, once my pastor though. He has 58 wives in the last 6 years and 28 children. Some of d wives were being snatched from their husbands who happen to be his members too.
"7 of the wife are dead now and he buries them in his land where he bought in Awada without proper burial rites.
"All he does is to employ few people to dig the graves and that's it. He sleeps with kids, when I mean kids I mean from 18 years up to 45 years old women.
"Nobody confronts him anymore because all those who have attempted it die mysteriously afterwards.
"You can do your own investigation if you so wish...and I'll guide you in doing so. He bribes his way out of police cases. The latest now is that he now dashes some of his children to couples in the church that do not have children medically.
"He preaches that when an apostle fornicates, it's divinely. People still attend his church because they are under a spell. Please help me circulate this story."
According to Chizzyfaithia, the pastor wears real animal skin to the pulpit to preach,with some strange mantles which he uses for 'destruction'.
"He calls himself prophet of the end time and wears real animal skin on the pulpit with some strange mantles which he uses for destruction only. So many souls are being trapped in this man's occultic web.
"I lived with this man when I was young, at age 7 because of the prophecy he gave my parents then. I lived with him for 9 years. He is worse than Rev King."
Asked if the pastor lives with all the wives and she said:
"Yes he lives with all the wives. He has a mansion he built from the plots of land he acquired from some few rich members he already snatched their wives and had killed. If the deceased has a son, he will tell the woman to send her son to the orphanage or back to his former husband's people, if the woman has a grown daughter like 15+, he will marry the woman and her daughter as well.
"If he wants to enter a family, I mean targeted (victims) he will first of all ask the woman to stop having s*x with her husband, stop taking care of him as the husband just in other to create rifts between them.
Then when they start having issues, he would ask the woman to come live in the church, and then excommunicates the man in question from the church, the next thing he will give the woman some huge amount of money to go and return her bride-price to his husband's people."
Chizzyfaithia was asked how she escaped from the alleged shackles of the pastor, she said:
"It was only God....all my family members were victims. I escaped long time ago, leaving my family there, they now forced my dad to throw me out at the age of 19..."

Barkindo Saidu, executive secretary, Borno Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (BOSACA), says 3,800 new cases of HIV infections have been recorded in internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in the state.
Saidu told NAN in Maiduguri on Wednesday that the new cases were recorded after voluntary screening in 15 IDPs camps in the state.
He said currently 2.4 percent of the population of the state or about 108,000 persons are living with HIV and AIDS, going by the demographic survey provided by the National Population Commission.
“We recorded 3,800 new cases of HIV between January 2017 to March this year,” he said.
“Also, 70 children in the IDPs camps tested positive.
“So far, in the whole state we have about 18,101 new cases of persons living with HIV within this period and only 9,438 are currently coming for the anti-retroviral therapy and counselling.
“Our challenges are enormous and cannot be over emphasised. It will interest you to note that Borno state have not participated in any HIV programme in the last two years.
“Only tiny portion of the people living with HIV and AIDs can access treatment because most anti-retroviral centres have closed.”
He explained that only 32 out of the 90 anti-retroviral centres were still operational in the state.
“Within the last six years, the state was only able to achieve nine per cent out of its HIV reduction prevalence rate in Borno state,” he said.
“This was because the government and other support partners have not given priority attention to the plight of such persons.
“Governor Shettima had approved N45 million counterpart funding for HIV development programmes since December 2016, but the fund is yet to be released.
“Three months ago, I wrote a letter to about 29 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to come to the plight of such persons but only UNICEF is assisting.
“On March 30, the federal government had received grant for HIV, TB and Malaria from Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Maleria (GPATM). We cannot access this fund until the state government provide counterpart support funding.”
The executive secretary, therefore, renewed his appeal to the state government to release the counterpart fund and urged NGOs to support people living with HIV/AIDS.

President Buhari’s first address Friday morning when he arrived was anything but coordinated, with the BBC describing parts of it as “rambling.” He missed Friday Jumaah prayers at the villa, which was quite telling. Describing his illness as the “worst ever” in his life, Buhari appeared to mention that he was even given blood while on medical leave.
Convening the federal executive council meeting Wednesday, the president set the house off laughing with perhaps an inappropriate or unexpected remark. While he came early, 5 minutes before the 10 am start time, the meeting which typically lasted till 5 or 6pm under acting president Osinbajo lasted only 2 hours. No more than a few of the planned meeting agenda could possibly have been covered.
Dragged Down To Sign Deals for Cabal
Buhari is clearly unable to fulfill the requirements of his office. The question is why the cabal bought him over, seeing how thin and weak he is. SaharaReporters media had severally reported that the cabal had been trying hard to bundle Buhari over against medical advice. Finally they succeeded in bringing him down, giving him immense stress, potentially worsening his condition and putting his life at greater risk.
No one will bring his father or friend over, looking as Buhari does and stress him as they are. These cabal are extraordinarily wicked.
There is clear evidence the cabal are hurrying to use the exhausted and physically stressed president to sign themselves juicy deals and sign off Nigeria’s assets and oil endowment to themselves and their cronies at the expense of Buhari’s health and the nation’s progress.
The Senate Should Come To The Rescue
If there is a time Nigeria needs Saraki the most, perhaps this is the time. Fortune and resistance have made and kept publicly indicted, embattled Saraki as Nigeria’s Senate president. It is only the National assembly that can rescue Buhari from these predators and assist him to return to the United Kingdom as soon as possible to receive the health care and rest he deserves, protected from a greedy, insensitive exploitative cabal.
Nigeria is in grave risk as the cabal hurry to manipulate an indisposed, frail Buhari to sign away on documents he is unable to decipher.
The Senate is urged to assist Buhari and Nigeria by ensuring Buhari is protected from the mischievous, corrupt plots and relieved of the daunting task of manning the nation and allowed to rest and hopefully recover as medically advised.
President Muhammadu Buhari met Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and some governors shortly after arriving he arrived the country after a medical vacation in the UK.

His indefinite vacation fuelled speculation about the state of his health with rumours being spread that he was dead although this was refuted many times by his media aides, Garba Shehu and Femi Adeshina.

There was also speculation that the president could remain in the UK for four months due to medical complication although the Senate president, Bukola Saraki led a three-man delegation of himself, Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawani to meet Buhari in London.
Saraki insisted after meeting the president that he was hale and hearty and said he was in his usual high spirit.
Apart from the delegation led by Saraki, the president also received high-profile visitors at the Abuja House in London including All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande.
His wife, Aisha also paid him a visit to confirm to Nigerians that he was hale and hearty as well as Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.
The last visitor he received before his return to Nigeria was Most Revd and Rt Hon Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury who visited on Thursday, March 9.

Two children have died in an outbreak of fire at an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Jere local government area of Borno state.
The camp is located few kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.
According to witnesses, the flame spread quickly because the tents were erected with dried stalk – a highly combustible material.
At least 400 families reportedly lost their homes as a result of the disaster. Men of the state fire service later contained the fire, preventing it from spreading further.
Quoting sources at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), NAN said some of the IDPs are from Marte and Mafa areas of the state, while others are migrants from smaller villages and the state capital.

The press release read in full: “President Donald J. Trump spoke this week with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria to discuss the strong cooperation between the United States and Nigeria, including on shared security, economic, and governance priorities.
“President Trump underscored the importance the United States places on its relationship with Nigeria, and he expressed interest in working with President Buhari to expand the strong partnership.
“The leaders agreed to continue close coordination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and worldwide. President Trump expressed support for the sale of aircraft from the United States to support Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram.
“ President Trump thanked President Buhari for the leadership he has exercised in the region and emphasized the importance of a strong, secure, and prosperous Nigeria that continues to lead in the region and in international forums," it added.
Recall that a group, International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (Intersociety) urged Nigerians not to believe the reported call between President Trump and his Nigerian counterpart, Buhari until the White House confirms it.

Army Times reports that Warrant Officer 1 Shawn Thomas, 35, was killed in a vehicle accident in Niger, according to a statement released by US Africa Command.
Another soldier was injured in the accident, which occurred during a “routine administrative movement” between partner force outposts, the release stated.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to their families during this difficult time,” the Africa Command release stated.
Thomas was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has acknowledged the complaints of protesting Nigerians, according to Laolu Akande, his media aide.
