It's no secret that the stars of Straight Outta Compton received no nominations from the Oscars, but they can't even attend if they wanted to.
There's been a lot of controversy surrounding the Oscars and its lack of diversity for many years now. Granted, if the invite was there, they probably wouldn't have gone anyway, but it's about the principle, right? Well, it turns out that when it comes to the Oscars, you can only attend if you have been nominated. That's right. All the people sitting in the audience, apparently are all nominees. As well all know, none of the cast was nominated for an Oscar so by default, they can't attend.
That definitely sounds like a slick way to not invite an entire cast of a groundbreaking film to an award show that awards casts of groundbreaking films...
On the brighter side, the cast (including Ice Cube, who was the executive producer of the film) will be attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the NAACP Image Awards, where they have four nominations.
According to Cube, he wasn't attending regardless:
