The Minister of Environment Amina Mohammed has visited the Ogoniland on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari to prepare the grounds for his visit to flag-off the clean-up exercise.
Buhari has intensified his commitment towards ensuring that UNEP Report on Ogoniland is realized in few weeks.
Daily Post informs that the minister was in Ogoniland before Buhari’s visit to officially kick-start the long awaited Ogoni clean-up expected to last for over 30 years.
Mrs. Mohammed was received on arrival by the prominent Ogoni born Environmental Rights Activist and National Coordinator of Ogoni Solidarity Forum (OFS), Celestine AkpoBari.
AkpoBari while speaking on receiving the minister said he was committed to work and make sacrifices for whatever will move the region forward, adding that, he will spend the rest of his life working for Ogoni.
President Buhari in August approved several actions to fast-track the long postponed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme Report on the environmental restoration of Ogoniland.
