For every Christian, the bible supercedes every other literature. This is the belief of Christians, who think it is not just a collection of materials but a document containing instructions from God.
This is why it is considered the most widely read instructional material, various versions have emerged over the years. To also meet the growing level of information technology, e-versions of the collection of books has consistently been created.
However, it is noteworthy that almost every Christian, irrespective of how many times he may have read the Bible, may have overlooked some of its strict warnings. These include:
- The craze for gold, braid and other such jewellery
This may be why the Deeper Christian Life Ministry and the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry do not condone the use jewellery. But many churches, including wives of pastors, overlook this warning which is explicitly stated in 1 Timothy 2:9. It reads:
“Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.”
Are you crazy about gold? You may not, but are you carrying a braided hair?
Craze for gold and other jewelry a sin
- Sexy dressing
Nowadays, every woman wants to ‘dress to kill’. It has become a common thing to see ladies in tight-fitting outfits that could get any man, no matter how holy, distracted for a moment.
“You are sexy” is a word every woman wants to hear and blush about. But 1 Timothy 2:9 warns against this:
“I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety.”
- Gossiping
When last did you gossip? You may not have done this consciously but it is gossip all the same. Leviticus 19:16 says:
“Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the Lord.”
- Tattoo
Is this trendy? Yes, across the world…different designs, different parts of the body. But here is what Leviticus 19:28 says:
“Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”
- Remarrying after being divorced
It is now very common to find divorced women re-marrying. Churches these days, hardly frown at this new practice. Read 1 Corinthians 7:10–11:
“To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife.”
Mark 10:11–12 further reads:
“Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.”
- Masturbation
Some years ago, Reverend Chris Oyakhilome of the Believers Love World, better known as Christ Embassy, was put on blast for saying masturbation is not a sin but that what constitutes sin is the picture that emanates from one’s heart. Religious analysts quote 1 Corinthians 6:18 to discredit the claim.
“Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body,” it says.
- Gluttony
Proverbs 23:2 simply reads:
“. . . And put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”
- Women speaking in church
Is your pastor, bishop or reverend a woman? The Bible is believed to be against women preaching in churches. 1 Corinthians 14:34 reads:
“Let your women keep silent in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.”
- Wearing polyester or other blends of fabrics
Leviticus 19:19 reads:
“You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.”
Who among you is guilty of this?
- Wasting your sperm
For guys who love condoms or the withdrawal method during sex, sorry! Genesis 38:9 reads:
“And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.”
- Eating crayfish, others
Leviticus 10–11 states:
“And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination.”
- Eating snails and other creeping animals
Leviticus 11:28–29 reads:
“These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, and the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.”
Eating creeping animals is a sin
- Eating pork (pig meat) and camel meat
See why they are forbidden: Leviticus 11:4 reads:
“Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.”
- Lustful admiration
The explanation is simple. Matthew 5:28 reads:
“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
- Homosexuality
The Bible is specific on this. Leviticus 18:22 states:
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
- Pre-marital sex
We all know it is a sin, but majority of us are into it anyway. Where is the girl without a boyfriend (lover) these days? Many verses in the Bible kick against it.
17.
Helping your husband fight someone
Even when the other man is dealing your husband heavy blows, just calm down and watch. This could be funny, but it is forbidden. Check out Deuteronomy 25:11–12:
“When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets.”
- Round haircuts
These days, there are various kinds of haircut. Just check yourself in the mirror and ask if you are a sinner. Leviticus 19:27 reads:
“You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads . . .”
- Designing your beard
Are you so fashion-conscious that you trim your beard to stylishly? Leviticus 19:27 is for you:
“…neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.”
