A US federal court has ruled against Trump
A United States federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel, has ruled against the winner of the country’s presidential election, Donald Trump.
Trump floored Hillary Clinton who was to make history as the country’s first female president and this has caused serious protests across the US as results showed that Clinton actually had the popular votes.
Curiel ruled Thursday, November 10, in San Diego, California, in a class-action lawsuit against Trump over the defunct Trump University.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case is scheduled to go to trial later in November and Trump is expected to testify in his own defence against allegations that the University for-profit business seminars was a hoax.
The plaintiffs argue that hundreds of individuals were charged large sums of money for courses that were essentially worthless.
According to Trump’s team, this is because the university had since gone bankrupt.
The judge, according to the report, further denied a request by Trump’s lawyers to ban discussion of the financial condition of students as well as the impact of the seminar fees had on their lives since many of them are poor.
Trump’s lawyers had argued that the testimony about the presidential campaign and about the other elements of the case are irrelevant and would serve to colour the jury’s opinion of the president-elect and his business venture.
The judge ruled that the students be called to testify about their experience and how the courses improved their understanding of business and real estate.
The report said Trump had steadfastly defended the university as a worthwhile investment for participants, who were promised knowledge of how to build their businesses.
The trial is now scheduled to begin on November 28.
